My favourite block is a simple one, but it's still a great block. It doesn't sing, it doesn't dance, it's just a churn dash.
You can download the directions here and make your own version of the block. I like it scrappy - with lots of different prints. I think I'll make a few more of these in both the 6" and 12" sizes, it'll be a fun project to make over the course of the year. Maybe using up fabrics from other projects and creating a diary in quilt form for 2013.

If you head over to Persimon Dreams you can find out more about the 'my favourite block quilt along', and learn a little bit about me as well (if you don't already know enough!).
There's a flickr group too!
And on Thursday of this week you can check out block number 4 of the quilt along on Pamela's blog.

Oh, I do love a churn dash! Someday I will make a quilt with these...someday!
Cute blocks!
Thanks for sharing -- can't wait to make it tonight! Congrats on you book too!
The churn dash is one of my all time favourites too. I made a bunch of wonky improv ones last year and they were totally dancing, totally reminded me of Snoopy dancing along with the piano. Yours are lovely.
sweet churn dashes, I've not made any before, they look similar to a shoo fly block which I loved last year.
Lovely block. I'm working on a churn dash quilt now. I'll check out that quilt along, too
Love this block so much, one of my first quilts in very traditional fabrics years ago. Maybe it's time to make a new version!
Love this block Katy and I can't believe that I'm actually contemplating doing another quilt along! There are so many out right now!
Okay, your churn dash is awesomness. It really isn't a fav of mine but I never thought to do it super scrappy. Pretty much in love with it now. And I think that the diary in quilt form is great. Congrats on the book too - already preordered through Indigo here in Canada.
I love the churn dash, too. Such a perky block that minds it's own business but can still pack a punch with the right fabric combo!
These look good, have you been using your Text Charms from the swap by any chance??? : )
I love the idea of making a diary in quilt form!
A lady in my quilt guild made herself a churn dash quilt: each block was made from leftover scraps from all the OTHER quilts she had made. The churn dash quilt was super colourful and a terrific reminder of all her quilts.
Your blocks are yummiest!!
I'm drooling on my keyboard for those black and white fabrics!
Looks like fun! I've been studying my Kansas City Star Quilt blocks books, contemplating doing a block study, so this quilt-a-long is perfectly timed!
"diary quilt of 2013"-- love that idea... Now make that a quiltalong and I'm in!!!
I found you googling scrappy churn dash. . .See I have a LARGE number of 4 7/8" squares from when I was making a scrappy Jacobs ladder quilt. . .Well what to do with them?! Well they make great HSTs, but what to do with them then? I saw someone with a churn dash block, and I thought that might work, and so I googled and found yours, and I am decided! I shall be making a scrappy Churn dash quilt!
(thanks!)
It"s 232 in the morning and I just finished my churn dash block! This is easily one of my favorites!!!
Thanks for sharing your block! I made six - 6 inch blocks -- share a post this morning and linked to you and shared on facebook too! Great block and great instructions!
Love te Chunk Dash block. Looks great scrappy!
