feeling virtuous

This weekend I managed to spend a day with the kids and have some family time AND a day sewing. It was quite the miracle!

To prove that there are miracles in this world, I even spent part of Sunday tidying up my sewing room, which was getting ridiculous with the amount of stuff in piles all over every available area.
It went from this....

To this....

Fair enough that doesn't look all that tidy either, but right at the back on the left I have a stack of stuff I need to take to the next Leeds Modern Quilt Guild Meeting to palm off donate to people that want it. Just scraps and stuff, and a big bag of wadding off cuts I'm taking to my friend Hannah on Tuesday when I see her (she's on some kind of crazy pillow making mission at the minute). At least the floor is clean, and I can actually use the surfaces now.

My desk is tidy (and my little Bernie is all packed up and ready to go to the Oh Sew Sweet Shop on Tuesday for a class. A class where I'm not the teacher and it's a work day that I've booked off as holiday. I'm all kinds of excited!)

Desk number 2 over here is tidy too. (I need the instruction manual next to that Janome because it's all a bit complicated for me. But, oh my gosh, it sews like a dream! It's the Horizon Memory Craft 8900, and the first time I've had a Janome to sew on. I'll blog about it properly when I have actually figured out more than the straight stitch!)

To reward myself, I had a beer. I felt I deserved it.

Your room looks like a miracle of organisation to me... can I ask, how big is it? And what is that machine in the back, in front of the (awesome) Hello Kitty quilt?

Your sewing room looks great! It's amazing how a bit of a tidy up can really help. I tidied up my corner of the dining room the other day and all of a sudden I could find my cutting mat and ruler without a dozen things falling on me first!

Totally envious of that lovely Janome machine as I was lusting over one of those in the sewing machine shop the other day but they refused to swap it for one of my kidneys :/

Hang on a minute, I thought you didn't quilt? That's a massive machine at the back of the room for piecing, especially when you have a fab Janome!

I like having a tidy up too, it doesn't get too out of hand in my room so it's usually a hoover and a scraps clearout and that does it. It's pretty bad at the moment though. I bought a new cutting mat yesterday and I daren't even swap it with the old one yet because of all of the stuff on top of it!

I have had my Janome Horizon MC 8200 for a few weeks and the manual is right there at the ready. I am off to find an overlocker today as dressmaking seems to have wriggled into my sewing time. I spotted the Hello Kitty quilt and it is lovely. My sewing room is manic, pile of finished makes, WIPs and fabric everywhere, you have shamed me into at least making a start on clearing the decks.

I love your room - just don't drink and sew ok?? Oh and if you ever feel the need to palm off/donate scraps, feel free to send then directly to moi. Just sayin'. xxxx

I'm thinking of a new machine. I tried a Janome (same as yours I think) and I was put off by the thread nests when you start off. I'd be interested to read you review, although I know most Janome owners love theirs

I have had that Janome for awhile now and absolutely love it!! I learn something new everyday. Enjoy!

A beer was definitely deserved with all your tidying! I am so much more productive when my sewing room is organized. Well done!

Lol, so I see a couple of comments about the Gammill in the corner but I am more interested in the cute sewing machine thread holder I noticed in the corner by the Bernina! And I may or may not be off to do a tidy myself...guess I was inspired by the clean surfaces. And I am anxiously awaiting my first edition form Brenda!

Ill take the gammill off your hands so you can save space, I'm good like that ;)

I do love a good tidy up and sort out! I think all that sorting deserves two beers so you'd best have the other one now, before you forget!

I want that machine so bad. But alas someone always needs braces or eye glasses or new shoes every five seconds. Janome = BEST! I'm confident you will absolutely lurve

Lovely clean up Katy! I TRY to clean up after each project as my space ("studio") isn't that large. I find that I can work more efficiently in a clean environment. As an aside...I sure was disappointed NOT to get into your class at QuiltCon...hope I see you at least!!!

Can you come over and tidy mine. It's a bit of a disaster at the moment. Also, Janome for life! I need sleep...

why is it so much of a chore tidying our stitchery stuff when it is so easy to turn the room into a tip! Excited about what you are bringing to our next meeting, will seem a long time till september!

I could use some tidying up but the beer sounds better.
